The Red Bean Soup
Once upon a time, in a small village nestled by a beautiful river, there lived a kind-hearted woman named Mei. Mei was known throughout the village for her generosity. Every day, she would make a delicious red bean soup and share it with anyone who needed food or warmth. She believed that the simple act of sharing food would bring happiness to everyone.
One cold winter’s day, an old beggar came to Mei’s door. He was hungry and tired, and he asked if he could have a bowl of soup. Without hesitation, Mei invited him inside and gave him a steaming bowl of red bean soup. The beggar ate it with great appreciation and smiled warmly at her.
"You are very kind," the beggar said. "Because of your generosity, I want to grant you a wish."
Mei thought for a moment and then said, "I wish for happiness and peace for my village, so that everyone can live in harmony."
The beggar smiled and nodded. "Your wish is granted."
The next day, the entire village woke up to a beautiful morning. The weather was perfect, the crops were growing abundantly, and everyone was filled with joy. Mei’s kindness had brought blessings to her village.
As for the beggar, he disappeared into the mist, but before he left, he left a note for Mei. It read:
"Kindness is like red bean soup—warm, sweet, and shared with love. May you continue to spread warmth to others, for kindness will always come back to you."
From that day on, Mei continued to share her red bean soup with everyone, and the village flourished. The people often remembered the lesson that kindness is the greatest gift of all.
