Moana
Moana tells the inspiring story of a young Polynesian girl who sets out on a daring journey to save her people and discover her true self. The story is set in a lush Pacific island environment, steeped in Polynesian culture, mythology, and tradition.
In the beginning, Te Fiti, an island goddess, created all life on Earth but her heart was stolen by Maui, a demigod with the power to shapeshift. Maui’s theft unleashes darkness across the ocean, causing the life-giving islands to decay. The heart is lost in the ocean and becomes crucial to restoring balance.
Moana, the spirited daughter of Chief Tui of Motunui, grows up fascinated by the ocean and its mysteries. However, her father discourages her from venturing beyond the reef, fearing the dangers that lie beyond. Moana struggles between her duty to her people and her longing to explore the sea. Her grandmother, Tala, nurtures Moana’s adventurous spirit and reveals a hidden truth: their people were once voyagers who explored the vast ocean but stopped after the darkness began to spread.
When the island’s resources start to dwindle, Moana learns that the ocean has chosen her to restore the heart of Te Fiti. With Tala’s encouragement and a magical stone (the heart of Te Fiti), Moana sets sail on a journey to find Maui and restore balance to the world.
After encountering Maui, Moana convinces him to join her quest. Maui is initially reluctant, but the two form a reluctant partnership. Along the way, they face challenges, including Kakamora (coconut pirates), Tamatoa (a giant treasure-hoarding crab), and Maui’s own self-doubt after losing his magical fishhook. Moana’s determination and courage inspire Maui to regain his confidence.
Moana also grows during the journey, learning the art of navigation and embracing her identity as a wayfinder. When they finally confront Te Kā, a fiery lava monster guarding Te Fiti’s resting place, Maui sacrifices his fishhook to protect Moana. Despite the odds, Moana discovers a crucial truth: Te Kā is actually Te Fiti, transformed by the loss of her heart.
With empathy and courage, Moana restores the heart, transforming Te Kā back into Te Fiti. Life returns to the islands, Maui is forgiven for his past actions, and Te Fiti gifts Moana a new canoe. Moana returns to her people, leading them as voyagers once more and embraces her role as a leader and navigator, uniting tradition with her personal dreams.
